The 2008-2009 Year will be busy one for the Rotary Club of Placencia as work continues on long term projects such as the Fire Department, annual and ongoing projects are continued , and new projects are taken on to address local needs. The following is a listing of the projects planned for this year includes, but not limited to:

• Providing a Scholarship for a local student to attend Independence High School
• Providing dictionaries to Standard 3 students in Placencia, Seine Bight, Monkey River, and Independence
• Organizing, along with the Village Council, events for the Flag Raising Ceremony in September
• Setting up and running a Huanted House for Halloween night
• Continuing support of the local chess club
• Continuing support of luncheons and other activities for our senior citizens
• Arranging for eye testing in the local schools
• Setting up screening for diabetes and high blood pressure
• Working on educational programs designed to reduce infant mortality
• Obtaining and installing drinking fountains at the Placencia soccer field and the school in Seine Bight
• Providing assistance in the painting of the school in Seine Bight
• Providing assistance in the improvements/expansion of Independence High School
• Providing assistance in obtaining equipment and making improvements to the clinics in Placencia Village and Seine Bight Village
• Raising the necessary funds to support the Rotary International's Polio Plus Project, which expects to eliminate polio worldwide within the next 3 years
